Afrikaans is groot (“Afrikaans is big” in Afrikaans)


Afrikaans is close enough to English that sometimes words are the same across the languages. A famous example is “My pen was in my hand” which means the same thing in English and Afrikaans. Another example is “My hand was in warm water”. Again, both are acceptable English and Afrikaans sentences. “Afrikaans is groot” is Afrikaans for “Afrikaans is big”. But here it is interpreted by groot to be something different 🙂
